Rissi Palmer’s groundbreaking career has been a testament to resilience and trailblazing in the world of country music. In 2007, she made history with her breakthrough single "Country Girl" from her self-titled debut album, becoming the first Black female country artist to chart on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Charts since Dona Mason in 1987. That same year, she made waves by ranking among iTunes' Top 5 Best-Selling Country Artists with her digital EP, cementing her place as a fresh voice in the genre.

Despite facing the challenges that come with being a Black woman in mainstream country music, Palmer has steadfastly charted her own course. She has independently released three albums, including the children's album Best Day Ever, the soulful Back Porch Sessions EP (2015), and the critically acclaimed Revival (2019), which Rolling Stone hailed as one of the Top 25 Country-Soul Albums of all time. Palmer’s music defies boundaries, blending country with elements of soul, Americana, and gospel, all while maintaining an authentic and powerful sound.

Palmer has consistently been an advocate for underrepresented artists, using her platform to challenge stereotypes and push for inclusivity within the country music industry. As the host of Color Me Country Radio on Apple Music, she has created a space for diverse voices, encouraging listeners to expand their views on the country music landscape. She also founded the Color Me Country Artist Grant Fund, which helps support emerging artists of color, providing them with the resources and opportunities they need to succeed.

Her influence reached new heights in 2023 when Palmer was featured in PBS’s American Masters: In The Making series, which spotlighted her immense impact on American culture. The documentary RISSI PALMER: STILL HERE offered an intimate look into her life, showcasing her tours, creative process, and how she balances her career with family life.

Palmer’s impact extends beyond music. She has performed at prestigious venues such as The White House, The Grand Ole Opry, Lincoln Center, and the Apollo Theater. Her performances have also been seen on national TV outlets like ABC News Live, CBS Mornings, CNN, and Good Morning America. She has been featured in esteemed publications, including the New York Times, Essence, Rolling Stone, and Washington Post, among others.

As one of only eight Black artists to ever have charted singles in any genre, Rissi Palmer’s legacy in the music industry is undeniable. She continues to tour across the U.S. and internationally, serves as a correspondent for CMT Hot 20 Countdown, and holds the esteemed position of Governor at the Recording Academy Nashville. Her contributions to country and Americana music have made her a powerful figure in shaping the future of the industry.
